Lundbeck launches new anti-depressant study
Date published: 12/12/2005
Lundbeck
has started the phase I clinical studies with Lu AA24530. The study will look
into the tolerability and the pharmacokinetic profile of the drug, which was
selected after preclinical animal models suggested fast onset of action and
increased efficacy in the treatment of depression.
Peter Hongaard
Andersen, head of research at Lundbeck, said: "It is with pleasure that
Lundbeck brings this new drug candidate into clinical development. "Lu AA24530
is the first of a number of candidates with novel actions expected to enter
clinical development within the coming years."
The research will centre
on developing drug candidates that are treating unmet needs experienced by
patients on existing treatments. Through detailed understanding of the
underlying biology in depression Lundbeck's research has identified novel
mechanisms that may improve future treatment.
