Allergan gets clearance to buy Inamed
Date published: 18/01/2006
Allergan
has received approval from antitrust authorities in Germany and Spain for its
acquisition of Inamed. Germany and Spain were the only approvals needed outside
the US for the deal to go through and Allergen is now waiting on the
US Federal Trade Commission
to give its clearance.
For US clearance to occur the firm needs to wait
for Inamed to sell off or return its licence for Reloxin, a rival to Botox.
David Pyott, Allergan chairman, president, and chief executive, said: "We are
pleased to have cleared all antitrust hurdles outside of the United
States.
"We continue to make good progress in our liaison with the US
regulatory authorities and anticipate receiving clearance from the Federal
Trade Commission in the near future so that we may consummate the acquisition."
The deal to buy Innamed, which produces breast implants, skin treatments and
treatments for obesity, was first announced in December and is thought to worth
around $3 billion.
