Date published: 16/01/2006
Abbott
Ireland, a subsidiary of Abbott Laboratories, is to create 600 new jobs with a
new site in Galway. The Sunday Business Post reports the company is seeking
planning permission for a 16,369 square metre site on the Parkmore East
Industrial Estate, Galway.
The centre is set to include a manufacturing
facility, laboratories and warehouses. The Parkmore East Industrial Estate
centre was first announced in 2002, but it is believed Abbott is also
considering further expansion in the area.
The
Irish Industrial
Development Agency has also announced the Japanese firm USCI is to set up a
research, manufacturing and distribution centre in Ballinasloe, County Galway.
Micheal Martin, Irish enterprise, trade and employment minister, said: "This is
excellent news for Ballinasloe.
"USCI represents another important
component in the expansive medical technologies infrastructure in Ireland and
continues our aim to broaden the cluster of such companies in the BMW [Border,
Midland and Western] region."
