Date published: 06/01/2006
The
president of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI),
Vincent Lawton, has been recognised in the New Year's honours. Professor
Lawton, who is currently managing director of Merck Sharpe & Dohme (UK),
was awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) for his services to the
pharmaceutical industry.
He told Manufacturing Chemist: "I am delighted
and honoured to receive this award. I see this very much as a mark of the
recognition for the whole UK pharmaceutical industry and its contribution to
patient health.
"It has been a great privilege to have had the
opportunity to represent the interests of the industry over the past few
years."
Mr Lawton is to step down as president of the ABPI in April. He
will be replaced by Nigel Brooksby, chairman and managing director of
Sanofi-Aventis in the UK, who will hold the office for a two-year term.
