Amber Valley PCT - Physiotherapy Pilot The PCT is
proposing a trial of Physio Direct in Amber Valley, offering direct
access to physiotherapy via telephone triage. This pilot will be based on the
scheme at Huntingdonshire PCT and will be piloted in two GP
practices. |

Amber Valley PCT - Prescribing Incentive Scheme The
PCT has agreed that instead of a Prescribing Incentive Scheme, it will in
future provide prescribing support to each practice to improve prescribing and
monitor the use of drugs. Many GPs found the previous Prescribing Incentive
Scheme time-consuming. |

Ashfield PCT / Mansfield District PCT - Integrated
Management Arrangements The boards of both PCTs have agreed to move
towards integrating their management arrangements under one CE (Mrs Eleri de
Gilbert) from April 2004. However, two separate boards and PECs will be

Bedfordshire Heartlands PCT -
Commissioning Bedfordshire Heartlands PCT is looking for other PCTs with
a similar geographical complexity to join a Facilitated Action Learning Set.
They hope to find solutions to the challenges that come with a large number of

Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale PCT - Service Improvement for
Older People The Speakeasy project offers interview training to
older people, who then speak to other older people about their experience of
the health service. Feedback from the interviews is used to find out what works

County Durham PCTs - Emergency Care Pilot Darlington,
Durham and Chester-le-Street, Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield PCTs have
joined forces to develop an Emergency Care Model which is the first of its kind

East Lincolnshire PCT - Senior Citizen Podiatry
Scheme East Lincolnshire PCT is now providing basic, home-delivered foot
care for anyone over 65 who has problems cutting their toenails but do not need
treatment by a podiatrist. Patients buy their own £12 clippers, and the
cost from the PCT is minimal or none. |

Eden Valley PCT - Mental Health and Learning Disabilities
Consultation Exercise As Lead for Mental Health and Learning Disability
Services in N Cumbria, the PCT has been conducting a 4-month public
consultation on these services.The final plan will be considered by Eden
Valley, Carlisle and District, and W Cumbria PCTs in Nov 2003. |

Gedling PCT - Musculoskeletal Referral Centre Gedling
PCT runs a Musculoskeletal Referral Centre, which monitors the demand for
Orthopaedics in Gedling, and triages Orthopaedic referrals into a community
based Soft Tissue Clinic. The PCT has also implemented a new Hip and Knee Pain

Greater Derby PCT / Central Derby PCT - Merger
Plans The Chief Executive of the merged Greater and Central Derby PCTs
will be Mr Prem Singh, who is currently Chief Executive of Chesterfield PCT.
The PCTs are expected to merge later this year. |

Lincolnshire PCTs - Phoenix Smoking Cessation
Service National statistics have been released which show Phoenix
Smoking Cessation Service in Lincolnshire at the top of the table for helping
smokers to quit. Smoking is estimated to kill 1,200 people each year in

Mid Devon PCT - Award Jackie Jones, Specialist
Diabetes Nurse, has been awarded the Medical Futures Innovations Award for
Health Education. She set up a special diabetes clinic in a rural town hall

North and East Cornwall PCT - Liskeard Community
Hospital Liskeard Community Hospital is due to open in Jan 2004, and
will replace the Passmore Edwards and Lamellion hospitals. The new hospital
will combine community hospital and elderly care facilities, with 19 GP medical
beds and 33 care-of-the-elderly beds. |

Nottingham City PCT - IT Skills for Expert Patient
Programme Nottingham City PCT has recently piloted a project offering IT
training to its expert patient volunteers. This has enabled them to access
resources on the internet which might help them manage their conditions, and

Network Sussex Downs and Weald PCT, with Lewes District Council and

Blenau Gwent LHB - CHD Risk Assessment Clinics Two
more practices have established CHD clinics - Six Bells Medical Centre
(Abertillery) and The Health Centre (Tredegar). Currently, 75% of local
practices offer a range of CHD services, including nurse-led cardiobetic,
cardiotensive and CHD clinics. |

Blenau Gwent LHB - Diabetic Retinopathy Screening The
All Wales Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service will be available in Blaenau
Gwent from November 2003. It is being rolled out across Wales as part of the
Sight Preservation Scheme for patients with Diabetes, and plans to
cover all of Wales by 2006. |

Blenau Gwent LHB - Rapid Access Chest Pain
Service Twelve more practices have been electronically linked to the
Rapid Access Chest Pain Service - 60% of LHB practices are now linked, with 95%
planned by the end of the year. The link has cut the referral to appointment
time to 1 week, (previously 1 year). |

for new Electronic Care System The PARIS system is an innovative
electronic care system being launched jointly by Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust and

funding of £212,000 will help develop a Stroke Unit in Raigmore Hospital.
