Nurse employment opportunities within
the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors are numerous, as are the job
descriptions and titles used... Nurse Advisor, Nurse Facilitator, Nurse
Specialist, Nurse Consultant...to name but a few. Whilst the job titles and day
to day responsibilities of Nurse Advisors might differ, the common denominator
is their qualification as Registered General Nurses (RGN). As such, all Nurse
Advisors work tightly within the governance of both the NMC and ABPI codes of
practice. It is generally accepted within the pharmaceutical industry
that the Nurse Advisor position has an independent status and that even though
a company may well sponsor them, their role as Nurse Advisor should be
non-promotional and not tied to the prescription of any particular product.
Nurse Advisors are normally sponsored to offer additional resource within
General Practice and often to help GP's to fulfil demanding clinical targets.
Nurse Advisors can be employed on a local, regional and sometimes national
basis, with responsibilities that include: driving forward best practice;
raising clinical standards in partnership with PCTs and Health Authorities; the
development of policies, guidelines and patient group directives.
